Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I think it is such an important cause to follow and one that is very close to my heart. In every city there is a benefit race that is called Race for the Cure and all the money goes to research and to raise awareness so women will get a yearly mamogram. Breast cancer is one of the few types of cancer that if caught early it is cureable and treatable.

My life has been effected by breast cancer in a number of ways. Both my maternal and paternal grandmothers are survivors as well as my great aunt and second cousin. The one person that I have lost to breast cancer was my nanny, my second mom and a dear friend. It brings tears to my eyes knowing that early detection could have prolonged her life. Early detection is the key! This month is one that offers us as women hope that our mothers, us and our daughters won't have to go through the awful stigmas, looks and comments that those who have come before of us have.

This month call your friend, your mom, sister, grandmother and remind them to get their yeary exam, and more importantly to do their monthly breast exam. It could save their life!! Here are a few pictures that touch me everytime I see them!

I'm an advocate because of these women...Why are you an advocate?

Today is the day to take action!! Let's not let someone we love suffer from this awful disease!

Hey Abby, this is such a great post- I recently found a lump in breast and am going to the doctor on the 31st. I'm an advocate because my sisters and I shouldn't have to worry about breast cancer.

Abby I too have been affected - my paternal grandmother passed away from it, my godmother is a survivor, my best friend just had a double mastectomy. My sorority's philanthropy is Komen, so it's all very near and dear to me. Glad you posted this - love you!!! Katie
