The first trimester

Since I waited until I was 13 weeks along to share that I was in fact pregnant with my blog readers, I thought I'd do a little recap for everyone. Brendan and I decided the timing was right in May, however we decided to wait a few months so that the kids would be over 2 years apart, if I were to get pregnant right away.

I found out was pregnant on August 14, I took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. In the next few days I bet I took no less than 10 pregnancy tests to confirm. You'd think I would have gotten the hint after 5, but no I have to pound it into my brain.

The first week I did know that I was pregnant, I started having migraines almost every day. Normally I have great medicine that can somewhat take the pain of the horrific headaches away, but when pregnant it's Tylenol and that's it. To be honest I was miserable, I could barely take care of Drew, I was struggling to function and spent more time with my head in the toilet than I did playing with my toddler. I finally called my OB's office crying asking if there was anything at all I could do and she prescribed me Tylenol with codeine and Zofran. Thank the good lord she did because it helps so much more than regular Tylenol and the Zofran helps with the nausea. If you've never had a migraine before picture the WORST headache you can imagine, then add in nausea, blurred vision and all around feeling like total garbage, then you have your typical migraine for me. So anyway, the new meds helped and allowed me to function. Then at 5 weeks, 4 days I started having some spotting that scared me beyond belief. I went in, had an ultra sound and everything looked great, she thought she saw a little flicker of a heartbeat but couldn't be completely sure since it was so early. I went back two weeks later and everything again looked great and Peanut's heart beat was beating away at 160bpm.

Up until this point we hadn't told a soul I was expecting again. With each of my pregnancies we've chosen to hear the heartbeat prior to telling anyone outside of our parents. This time we literally didn't tell anyone until after my second appointment. We shared the good news with all three sets of our parents and they were over the moon. Some had trouble keeping the secret, which annoyed me, since it is our news to share and we choose not to share until later due to my history of miscarriage.

I went to the doctor again at 10 weeks and once again had an ultra sound, everything looked great, I could watch that little gummy bear all day. between weeks 6 and 10 my migraines became less frequent but were still present. I'm now only getting about 2 per week instead of daily. my OB is optimistic that the further I get along in this pregnancy the less frequent they will be. I've had migraines since the age of two, you'd think I could tolerate them better.

Last week we decided to come out to the world and share that Drew is going to be a big brother. So moving forward Drew will turn 2 in March and I am due April 21st. My OB is planning a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks if all looks good. I had a c-section with Drew after 40 hours of labor, and I developed a heart condition during pregnancy and labor and delivery. Thus, why my OB and cardiologist agree that my body specifically my heart does not do well with labor. When I was pregnant with Drew my aortic valve started to leak and dilate, after delivery it was categorized as a severe leakage and thankfully since then has gone down to a mild leakage, however it's permanent damage to my heart and my cardiologist and OB both fear what labor could do to my heart once again. So scheduled c-section it is, my type A personality will thrive on having a set time and date.

So there you have it folks. Peanut is on the way and will be dubbed Peanut until April because we once again are not finding out the sex before delivery. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
