Celebrating a life and memories

A year ago yesterday we received devastating news that our dear friend and neighbor had been killed in a motorcycle accident.
In the year that followed we watched as his daughter grew, his wife went through the grief cycle and we missed our friend dearly. We shared memories of him, we laughed, we cried, we smiled, we wished we was still with his family.
As his passing was approaching the one year mark his wife arranged for us to all gather and celebrate his life and his memory at his grave on the one year anniversary. She came up with the idea of releasing lanterns into the sky and last night we did just that. We gathered, we shared life, we honored our friend, we cherished his memory and we wrote messages on the lanterns as we released them into the beautiful sky as dusk approached.

His wife releasing her lantern, there wasn't a dry eye.

There was something so serene about last night, I can't describe the feeling. There were tears, there were smiles but there was a sense of calm and peace throughout it all.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".
